"Some people have the misconception that their feet should hurt," said the Southfield podiatrist.
To help ease a patient's step, Dr. Mozen uses a technology called Footmaxx to diagnose and treat problems.
He's the only Oakland County doctor using the system.
In Wayne County, Dr. Steven Watson of Canton Foot Specialists has
Footmaxx.
The setup gives a picture of how a person walks. Patients step across a flat sensor mat, which measures
how much pressure is exerted throughout the foot and clocks how long each step takes.
A computer program gives statistics and a diagram of the gait cycle, which helps doctors see where the
trouble is.
If the patient requires orthotics or prescription arch support, information from the computer program
is send directly to the manufacturer.
Traditionally, doctors used plaster casts for a foot imprint. But that shows the foot at rest, not moving.
Orthotics realign the foot and holds it in position. Relieving pain and preventing the progression of
deformities such bunions and hammertoes.
